Constantly at the cutting edge of dance music since the turn of the millennium, Hyper is a DJ in world-wide demand. From the Far East to Australia, across the breadth of the United States and throughout Europe, his sets are never less than perfect, blending blistering beats and ripping bass with a panache that is the envy of the dance world.

His past as a compiler of the mix album is unparalleled. Starting the lauded ‘Y3K’ series that set the pace in the leftfield, progressive spheres, Hyper upped the ante with a pair of superlative mixes under the ‘Bedrock Breaks’ banner before branching out into the endless possibilities of his last set, the high-tech masterpiece ‘Wired’, on his own Kilowatt imprint.

His recent output has seen him forming a kick-ass rock ‘n’ roll band under the Hyper moniker, featuring erstwhile Prodigy member Leeroy, ex-Pitchshifter axe-spanker Jim Davies and The Light and PFNs main-man Ronnie. Their critically acclaimed ‘We Control’ album took them out of the clubs and onto the stages of festivals all over the globe, including Glastonbury, Glade, the Sziget Festival in Hungary and Coliseo Ciudad de Atarfe in Spain.

His latest offering ‘Rewired’, released through Kilowatt, goes back to his DJ roots, picking up where he left off, effortlessly looping and twisting some of the most on point sounds around into an hour long excursion through a highly charged selection of floor smashing cuts that have been the mainstay of his record bag on recent gigs.

Kicking of the album with Dan F’s asymmetrically sparse ‘Right On’, Hyper rides the accappella from his recent ‘No Rockstars’ single before smashing into the juiced up riffing of Koma & Bones retooling of Brancaccio & Aisher’s ‘Freak Around’. Hitting his stride Hyper lays down a squelching offering from Albino Allstars and his aforementioned ‘No Rockstars’ single before Broken Family Band get an airing, reconstructed in Rogue Elements inimitably heavy manner that segues beautifully into a throbbing assault from South Central. Dropping the pace momentarily Hyper introduces some new goodness from the mercurial ILS, who adds luscious strings and hypnotic vibes to the pot.

Cranking the pace higher, Hyper teams up with Jhz for the driving bass and glitched vocals of ‘Computer Says No’ before switching up to man of the moment Alex Metric’s ‘System’ that plunders a stabbing funk groove until the Boyz Noize Mix of Bloc Party’s majestic ‘Banquet’ takes us into the home straight. Hyper’s next single ‘I’m Sick’ channels the spirit of a truly classic indie anthem, turning out an epic club killer that he slips into the stomping behemoth that is the Metalism mix of Digitalisms ‘Pogo’, with added lashing of lacerating bass and the Part Deux accappella of ‘No Rockstars’ just for good measure.

Once again proving that there are few DJs who can match his skill and eclecticism, Hyper’s ‘Rewired’ is a blistering document of a DJ at the top of his game.
