Functional Breaks was formed in October 1999 as part of Future Underground Nation (FUN). Since its birth, Functional has been responsible for multiple 12” and cd releases, a number of which have appeared on compilations by the likes of Dave Seaman, Ashley Casselle and The Stanton Warriors. They have also been heavily involved in production for various events including The Glade Stage at Glastonbury, The Glade festival, Beautiful days, Natural (Spanish breaks parties) and to top it off, the massive Breaksday parties hosted with Rennie’s TCR label.

Over the years, the quality of Functional Breaks’ releases has improved tenfold, largely down to the artists that they now have on their roster, both locally and internationally. Locally, each Beatz & Bobz resident (Ben & Lex, Bitesize and Tom Real) has been busy in the studio. Further from home, artists such as Dj Rocca & 5th Suite, An-Ten-Ae and Dj Killer have provided then with some of our most successful releases to date. Added to this, they have seminal breaks/dub fusion act Dreadzone, on The Functional Roster.

The Beatz & Bobz mix cd series was inspired by their long-running club night of the same name. With volumes 5 successfully under their belt the label continues to go from strength to strength.
