The idea for Manchester based Splank! Records was conceived by Jonny Strinati and Chris Hughes in 2003. Both were hugely influenced by funk and disco stylings of the 70’s and 80’s and but wanted to apply this to the modern dancefloor. The boys were from a techno and house background but after a chance listening to a Plump DJ’s mix on the front of DJ Mag they dropped their four to the floor ways and directed the label into the world of breaks. Within a couple of years Splank! was at the forefront of breaks creating a new sub genre known as P-Funk Breaks and were nominated for Best Breakthrough Label at Breakspoll 2006.
