A new Company, Resist Music, has been set up by React’s James Horrocks and Melissa Kemp and has since acquired the staff, rights and work-in-progress projects of React and are now officially open for business.

Unfortunately, in June 2004, while enjoying its best period of turnover and profit for 5 years, React Music’s distributor (4am/Flute), went into voluntary administration after the MCPS revoked their license to release records. React was unable to extract any of the £1 million owing to it, and was forced into voluntary liquidation on 16th June 2004 as it was unable to trade out of such debt.

Steeped in history, React tells the story of how acid house and club culture came of age. As React grew into one of the most successful and long-running independent dance labels in Britain, so did dance music. Nostalgics would tell you that club culture's days of innocence are gone, but, for all their success, React still believed in the same things they always have. Many dance labels rose and fell over the previous decade, but until it’s unfortunate demise, React continued to stay ahead of the pack.

As Danny Rampling once commented, "React has stood the test of time in the industry, proving to be front runners in providing first-class quality product."

Responsible for a slew of brilliant dance music singles, as well as the legendary Reactivate, Bonkers, Dope on Plastic and Artcore compilations as well as some Carl Cox and Café Del Mar albums along the way, React was one of the key players on the scene.

Thankfully the Resist label maintains the quality of the earlier imprint, with James Holden and M.A.N.D.Y. having already mixed two of the “At The Controls” series, and Miss Kitten, Damien Lazarus and Erol Alkan lending their DJ talents to Bugged Out albums. There are also Good Times (Norman Jay’s series) and Big Chill compilations as well as Lab 4 and some other tasty bits and pieces to make Resist a key player in the current electronic music market.
