For a while now, there has been a growing indication amongst some of the world’s most successful DJs, that one of the pack of leading breaks labels would sooner or later break free from the underground and begin to match the success of the leading house music imprints. This theory has been accentuated by the growing number of house DJs finding room in their sets for breakbeat records that have enough production qualities and tribal ingredients to work on all kind of different dancefloors. It was around these aspirations that Kilowatt Recordings materialised from dancefloor driven strategies to a strong plot for each of its artists.

Helming the creative decisions is label manager Guy Hatfield, (DJ Hyper) whose reputation has risen meteorically in the last few years with DJ residencies at Bedrock, Tyrant and Norman Cook’s Big Beat Boutique. He was also the tour DJ for US breaks outfit Crystal Method’s, extensive US tour in late 2002. Guy’s vision for where the label should be heading has been cast in stone from the offset, which has reflected in his excellent DJ-ing and earnt him respect from the likes of Adam Freeland, Lee Burridge and John Digweed. Having been the main force behind the Waxworks club promotion set up for several years, Guy has been exposed to every breakbeat pore imaginable and has built a detailed knowledge of what sounds are working on and beyond the dancefloor.

Featuring such breaks luminaries as the incredible Terminalhead, Jon Gray and Bedrock’s Nick Muir under their Fatliners guise, Stir Fry, a new sound from John Ross (Ronnie) the man that brought us The Light and PFN, signed to Hooj and 10 Kilo respectively, the label is a veritable who’s who of the intelligent breaks world.

With all the potential that Kilowatt handles, all that remains to be seen is the level of impact that will be made. Look out for all of this and a few more suprises yet to be revealed…
