It all began in 1991, in the modest cultural crossroads of columbus ohio, with the original bastard band body release ("b/re" for short). b/re had been founded that autumn, to connect the dots between 808 state and I-71 north, and consisted of todd sines on keyboards and drum machines, mike szebzek on (more) keyboards, titonton duvanton (still more) keyboards, and charles noel on a rickety old belt-drive turntable (no keyboards). before and after band practices at the old house at 384 east 17th ave, charles would sneak off with his battle-damaged 4-track tape recorder to build his own sound constructions, melding industrial dance music, hip-hop, breakbeat, techno, and noise together into something altogether more unsettling. out of those recordings, and the colorful mish-mash of the b/re family, the 21/22 corporation was born.
