They’re Alive?!

Just when we all thought they’d disappeared to sprinkle the nether worlds of film scores and cereal commercials with liberal amounts of cowbells, Evil Nine are back with a new single ‘They Live’. Complete with Trevor Loveys on remix duties and a disconcertingly catchy vocoder hook, things are shaping up well for the full length album. But back to the single.
The Evil Nine version sounds exactly like you want it to with stomping drums and groove that makes you feel like you’re rolling down a hill, albeit in a very controlled and rave-sanctioned manner. The Trevor Loveys ‘hip hop’ mix is the one that really suprised me, sounding a lot less like hip hop and a lot more like, well, breakbeat. With of course the obligatory farting bass sounds and wonky timing that he does so well. Why is it called the hip hop mix?
Check it out on their MySpace - it’s DOPE
The Chemical Brothers are also back. Twice. In stereo even. The remix they’ve knocked out for Oasis of ‘Falling Down’ brings to mind the Chems of old (think that Charlatans Rmx etc) which I don’t think ANYONE will complain about, whereas EBW10 aka ‘Midnight Madness’ is glorious. It is forward thinking, undefinable and meanders along until bursting point which it does in inimitable Chems fashion. Both of these are getting a rinsing from me.
