B J Robson & Anton Fielding aka Solaris Heights, are clearly the masters of the deep Balearic beats , funk fueled techno grooves and monster electro-house filtered arpeggios saturated in deep dark chords… Hailing from a small village swallowed up in the stark, sprawling, industrialized landscape of the North-East of England. A landscape that has no doubt contributed to Bryan’s, sometimes escapist, musical output. And Anton began his production career in ‘96 with Solaris Heights, and produced under so many guises , released on labels as has now released over thirty singles on labels Hooj, Airtight, The End, Alola, Forensic, Low Pressings, Plastica, Renaissance, Solar, and Satoshi Tommie’s SAW Recordings in New York. All of these releases have had widespread impact in clubs across the world, with big names in house music like Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Sasha, Danny Howells, and many, many others playing, and supporting, their music.
And they are back with a brilliant new track ‘ Rekollection‘ on Dave Seaman’s Audio Theraphy …Imagine a tech house romp update of Jamie Principles Baby Wants To Ride and you aint far off. Added to the bill is uber-cool German DJ/producer Tocadisco who has had an amazing year so far working on the likes of D.Ramirez, Dirty South and Mighty Dub Katz and yet again he pulls an absolute stormer out of the bag. Playing more on the groove and the electro sounds from the original he creates a tight stomping electro house workout that is set to cause mayhem on dancefloors over the summer.

And Here is a rather long interview with B J Robson Of Solaris Heights
Who or what has been the biggest influence ?
LISTENING TO MY BIG SISTER’S HOUSE RECORDS IN THE MID/LATE 80’S.
What do you see as your main strengths as a producer?
I THINK IF YOU TRY TO ANALYSE YOURSELF TOO MUCH THINGS FALL APART…I JUST TRY WRITE THINGS THAT I LIKE, AND THAT HOPEFULLY CONNECT WITH SOMEONE ELSE, EITHER ON A DANCEFLOOR OR MAYBE SOMEWHERE DEEPER.
Do you sample, use old records, listen to them, or how does your producing process go?
SAMPLED LOTS OF TRACKS IN THE PAST. I’M ALWAYS REFERENCING OLD MUSIC FOR NEW IDEAS. PRODUCTION PROCESS IS ALWAYS CHANGING, I HAVEN’T SAMPLED ANYTHING FOR YEARS, BUT THAT’LL PROBABLY CHANGE AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.
What was the party that affected you a lot?
THERE WAS A CLUB IN MIDDLESBROUGH CALLED CLUB HAVANA, I FIRST WENT THERE IN ’88 AND I’D NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE IT, THE CLOTHES, THE MUSIC, WHICH I SUPPOSE WOULD PROBABLY BE CLASSED AS BALEARIC. YOU REALLY FELT PART OF SOMETHING, SOMETHING NEW HAPPENING. CEMENTED MY LOVE OF HOUSE MUSIC. GOOD TIMES.
What is the most interesting comment you have heard about your music?
MMM…DUNNO, GREAT WHEN PEOPLE REMEMBER OLD SOLARIS HEIGHTS STUFF THOUGH. REMEMBER WHEN JIMPSTER SAID HE STILL PLAYS ‘FUSIQUE’ NOW AND AGAIN, AND IAN POOLEY WANTED ME TO SEND HIM A COPY OF ‘MIDNIGHT’ ABOUT 6 YEARS AFTER IT CAME OUT!
What’s the single most exciting thing about dance music at the moment in your opinion?
ITS CONSTANT EVOLUTION…I LOVE THE WAY DANCE MUSIC MUTATES TO SURVIVE. MOST OF THE TIME MUSIC FEEDS ON ITSELF IN CYCLES, BUT THEN, EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, YOU GET JUST ONE TRACK THAT COMES RIGHT OUT OF THE BLUE AND FIRES THE WHOLE GENRE OFF INTO A NEW DIRECTION…OUT OF ALL THE MUSICAL GENRES, DANCE MUSIC SEEMS TO DO THAT BEST.
Who’s been your favourite musician or producer that you have worked with over the years?
ON ONE OF MY SOLO PRODUCTION OUTINGS I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO WRITE A SONG WITH ROY AYERS. IT WAS A TRULLY WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE RECORDING THE SONG WITH HIM.
Are you afraid of piracy?
YES AND NO. IT’S A REAL TRANSITIONAL PERIOD IN THE INDUSTRY. WHEN RECORDS WERE FIRST INTRODUCED MUSICIANS THOUGHT NOBODY WOULD LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC EVER AGAIN. IT CERTAINLY HAD A PROFOUND IMPACT, BUT IT WASN’T THE END OF LIVE MUSIC. I SEE PARALLELS NOW WITH THE DIGITAL MP3 FORMAT AND FILE SHARING. HOPEFULLY THINGS WILL EVEN OUT IN TIME AND PEOPLE WILL REALISE THAT IF THEY DON’T PAY THE ARTISTS TO CREATE MUSIC, IT WILL IMPACT ON WHAT THEY’LL BE LISTENING TO IN THE FUTURE.
Who is rocking your boat these days and who are your top tips for 2008? /What DJ’s and producers are doing it for you these days?
I LIKE ROLAND M. DILL. REALLY LIKE RODRIGUEZ JR. ERM…LIKING NOZE TOO.
If you could have anyone remix any of your tracks, who would it be and why?
I’D LIKE PANTHA DU PRINCE TO REMIX SOMETHING OF MINE, HIS TRACKS HAVE A GREAT FEEL ABOUT THEM, PERFECT BALANCE OF DANCEFLOOR/EMOTION.
What is the magic hangover cure?
AAH…NOT MAGIC, PURE SCIENCE. 2 BANANAS, MILK, HONEY, ICE AND A SMOOTHIE MACHINE.
What non dance music do you listen to in say your car CD or on the stereo in the kitchen?
I GENERALLY ONLY LISTEN TO NON-DANCE MUSIC OUTSIDE OF A CLUB/PARTY/STUDIO. CSS, JOY DIVISION, E.S.G, NICK DRAKE, STEVIE WONDER, BRIAN ENO, THE SMITHS…

And then how do you handle obsessive groupies? (The guys)

Which is your personal favourite track that you’ve produced & why?
PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE HOUSE TRACK WOULD BE ‘ELEMENTIS’ ON GUIDANCE RECORDS BACK IN ’97. JUST A LOVELY BALEARIC VIBE ABOUT IT I THINK, NICE MELODIES. IT WAS FUN PLAYING GUITAR AND PERCUSSION AND STUFF.
What are your favourite production tools /gadgets?
GOT SOME WONKY ‘DARKWARE’ PLUG-INS THAT I REALLY LIKE.
What do you think about this whole minimal craze and do you support that?
NEW GENRES ARE WHAT KEEPS DANCE MUSIC ALIVE, FOR ME A BAD ‘CRAZE’ IS ONE THAT’S DERIVED FROM LOW COMMON DENOMINATORS, I.E. FASTER. LOUDER. MINIMAL SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN ITS QUE FROM EARLY EXPERIMENTAL TECHNO…SO THAT’S A GOOD STARTING POINT I THINK. IN ALL PHASES THERE’S A BACKLASH, SO WHEN PEOPLE GET TIRED OF MINIMAL IT’LL MUTATE IN SOMETHING NEW.
