German DJ and producer MALENTE has released a total of four albums on Unique Records since the year 1999.

Beginning of 2008 Malente is voted Top National Act of the German Club Charts. And as there was so much going on in ‘07 the first release this year is scheduled for july on the fabulous Exploited Label: Malente & Dex “Hyperactive” (with remixes by Riva Starr, Bobmo & Bird Peterson). This will be followed by releases on FOOL’S GOLD (A-Trak’s Label) and SOUTHERN FRIED (Fatboy Slim’s Label).

What have been up to lately and what can we expect from you over the next couple of months?
I’ve been Djing every weekend and producing + office during the week. As I’m doing all my suff myself, that’s a lot of work. Upcoming is Malente&Dex – “Hyperactive” (incl. Remixes by Riva Starr (feat Jammer & Frisco), Bobmo & Bird Peterson on EXPLOITED. Later this year there’s gonna be new Malente 12”es on A-Trak’s FOOL’S GOLD label and SOUTHERN FRIED and a new Moston & Malente on SPLANK!

Which one do you enjoy the most, Djing or producing?
I love ‘em both the same, like borther and sister (hm, actually i don’t like children too much)

What makes a party good & bad?
When I’m Djing: the people and the setting

Do you sample, use old records, listen to them, or how does your producing process go?
I listen to old and new music non-stop. When producing I sit down and just fool around most of the times. Until something good happens.

Is it the technique that is important? Or the selection or the looks or the moves?
The moves.

What’s the single most exciting thing about dance music at the moment in your opinion?
That it’s alive. You can observe the evolution of it and producers communicating/exchanging ideas thru their compositions. I’m a nerd, I find that fascinating

Who is rocking your boat these days and who are your top tips for 2008? /What DJ’s and producers are doing it for you these days?
Destroy Disco, Hostage, Brabe, Bobmo, Fake Blood, Jokers Of The Scene, Boy 8-Bit, Bird Peterson, Stupid Fresh, Aston Shuffle, Rico Tubbs, Lars Moston, Daniel Dexter, Acidkids, Shir Khan, A-Trak, Clark Able, Zombie Disco Squad, Heavy Feet, Riva Starr, Twocker and the obvious ones like Crookers, Hervé etc.

What is the magic hangover cure?
I don’t drink. Guess that’s the magic…

What non dance music do you listen to in say your car CD or on the stereo in the kitchen?
I buy vinyl of These New Puritans, Futureheads, Cajun Dance Party, Foals, Vampire Weekend, Late of the Pier, Depeche Mode

What are your favourite production tools /gadgets?
I’m working on logic and love to use the plug ins from Berlin Sugar Bytes. Awesome filters, effects and synths. Apart from that I always try to find new software and hardware I can use so making music doesn’t get boring.

What do you think about this whole minimal craze and do you support that?
Yeah I totally support that. I support Silvio Berlusconi too

What are the top five most listened to tracks/songs on your iPod?
My fucking iPod broke – the second one that failed me. How annoying

If you had to do something different what do you think you would end up doing?
I’d be getting a lot of money

What is your favourite TV show?
I like most of the Adult Swim stuff: Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Frisky Dingo… but I don’t watch much TV apart from soccer games
