What should I use
A lot of people ask me what they should use to produce music. I usually answer that the best program is the one you feel comfortable with. I use Cubase SX2 / Ableton Live on PC as a platform with various bits and bobs running alongside.
I had A Skillz come and stay at my place last week and we knocked out some tunes. I know Adam currently uses Pro Tools on a Mac, and has just bought a new copy of Logic too. However within hours he was more than comfortable switching up and manning the controls in my studio. I have also gone into his studio and found the switch pretty easy.
At the end of the day pretty much all the platforms are essentially equal. They all enable you to organise beats and sounds into something resembling tunes. Obviously some have specific nuances that enable you to do different things, but the one that lets you get on with the business of writing music without getting in the way is the best one.
