Albums
So following on from comments about the ’single’ orientated nature of modern music consumption, I felt it necessary to post about a couple of albums.
Plump DJs - Headthrash

You’d have to have been living under a rock, or at least a rock formation, to have not stumbled across this by now. It is easily the most anticipated release of any scene I’m anywhere near so far this year, and it is certainly well worth the wait. Cracking production and, more importantly, cracking SONGS. My faves are Rocket Soul and He Got Beef which have both been coming loudly out of speaker located near me at every opportunity. One of the things I always love about the Plumps is their ability to cover so much ground and still sound exactly like the Plump DJs, and no-one else. This album is great and forward thinking and retro sounding and loud and obnoxious and a little bit scary every now and then but mosty very exciting which is everything you could want. Buy it now.

Myagi - 3 Years Of Sunrise
Myagi has been smashing out tunes under various monikers for a while now (Sole Claw being another fave of his) with releases on a whole bunch of labels too. For this album project he’s teamed up with Freddy Fresh’s label and the outcome is delightfully unexpected. Young Mr Mavor (as his passport identifies him) has also taken the opportunity to show his roots and explore a host of different genres, and once again pretty much all of it comes out sounding like him. There are lush soundscapes, big distorted basslines, hip hop flavours, acid creeping (wooot! acid!) and as you’d expect, big beats. No idea on a release date for this yet but it is a corker.

I totally agree with you on Rocket Soul Nick. That’s a truly wicked track.
Overall, I wasn’t sure about Headthrash compared to Saturday Night Lotion and A Plump Night Out, but when I forgot about those two, I really enjoyed Headthrash. Killer stuff.

A BBC critic totally panned the album, much to my surprise. I’m loving it …. fav at the moment is ‘Torque of the Devil’.
