Jody Wisternoff Introduction

Hey guys and girls, Jody Wisternoff here ! One half of Way out west alongside Mr Warren, and more recently a solo artist to boot. Ive been doing this music thing for over 20 years now,and still enjoying it as much as ever !
Recently ive been putting a lot more energy into the DJing side of things, as I find great gigs at the weekend really spark the studio creativity. I also think its really important to be 100 % on the case when it comes to dance music, as its such a constantly evolving and complex beast that you cannot get left behind.
Ive always been influenced by the emotional/soundtrack type stuff. When i first saw Bladerunner as a kid, it was Vangelis’s score that blew my mind, and i think at that point i made the subconcious decision to dedicate my life to music.
Seduced by hiphop in the late 80s which evolved into the uk house/techno/rave/jungle movement, it wasnt until 1993 that i met Nick and properly settled into the house groove.
Right now im loving a lot of the melodic techno stuff by the likes of Gui Boratto, Robert Babicz, Joris Voorn etc. Some of the French style stuff i really dig when its not too noisy, Justice / Ed Banger , and the sexy grooves of Fred Falke and co.
Hungary has got to be one of my favorite DJing destinations right now, in fact the vibe in Eastern Europe as a whole is pretty wicked. South America continues to rock, Bogota in Colombia impressing me recently.
Right now im working on the 4th Way out west album with Nick, which should be finished before the end of the year. My last solo track, Starstrings, is due to be re released this summer on Ministry, and ive got a bunch of possible follow ups in the pipeline.
A collaboration with Sian Evans from Kosheen is underway, and the vocal talents of Jon Mendelson from New york grace several new tracks. On the remix tip i’m just completing a rerub for Chymera, and my Orkidea mix should be released in the near future.
Robert Babicz will also be lending his remixing genius to the first WOW track to be taken from the album, entitled Spaceman it should see the light of day late summertime. Exciting times ahead !!
As a man who spends half his life on AIM , ive embraced the digital download format with a passion. With software like Ableton Live, programming DJ sets has never been more enjoyable or creative. Dj Download and Beatport are offering a service that we could have only dreamed of 10 years ago. Yeah, record sales have suffered and of course there are many problems associated with file sharing, but overall i reckon as long as you continue to evolve and stay passionate, things should be cool.
Cheers, JW

Hi Jody
Loving the podcasts! Just downloaded Orli & Martie’s track ‘White Flower’ and really got into Mango - all thanks to you. I’ve managed to get plenty of family & friends hooked onto the podcasts as well. We all want to know when you will DJing in London soon as we are in need of some of that quality melodic techno! Really looking forward to the new WOW album.
