Helloooo Earwormers.

It sounds kind of like earwarmers. Or Earmuffs. So I’m going to call my little blog Chloe’s Earmuffin. I’ll be the ear, you be the muffin.

I’m Chloe Harris. Not only am I stupidly sarcastic, I’m also a DJ and producer and writer in the electronic music world and avid geek about fashion and haute couture.

I’m from beautifully rainy Seattle, but split my time between here and beautifully rainy England. I’ve been lucky enough to have played around the world in the some of the best venues with some incredible people. I’ve gone on two Transitions Tours with John Digweed, played a few Bedrock’s and he’s stated me as the Breakthrough DJ of 2008. Woo.

I’ve been working hard in the studio and have released a single called Skooch with a brilliant Oliver Lieb remix, as well as working my ass off doing remixes.

I love toying with sounds and hope to learn and create as much as I can.

I started collecting music 25 years ago and have a stupidly soft spot for all things 80’s and commercial hip hop. Not so much the new stuff, but Dr. Dre is a genius. I guess he would be one of my influences. He never seems to overdo a beat. He keeps it simple yet there is always that complete groove or jacking snare that hits perfectly. I wish I had a million dollar studio to sway him to make us a beat. I could rap all over it. I’m sure it’d be a hit.

I came from a musical family. My dad’s family always had music going. His mom played the piano, and his uncle was a conductor for the NY symphony. My mom and dad were both avid musical fans, but also took part of the hippie shaker movement and embraced having their own business.

My family has run Easy Street Records in Seattle for more than 20 years and it’s a hodgepodge of genres and people.

Kim, my dad was an 80’s heavy metal rocker manager also during that time for a band some of you may remember called Queensryche. He used to have some pretty crazy guests show up at the house.

Karen, my mom was always dancing and entertaining and had the beats going, and so in turn I got into music very early on and remember loving Kraftwerk first. I was completely perplexed by the sounds they were making. I totally thought they really were robots. This would have been perfectly good to me.

I listened to The Cure, The Dead Kennedys, industrial music like Haujobb, :Wumpscut: and Skinny Puppy, and then in the 90’s mostly hip hop and ambient techno and electronic music.

I really loved the years 1992 to 1994. Not only was our Seattle scene absolutely rocking with Nirvana, Mudhoney and Alice In Chains, Skinny Puppy put out thier last album before quitting, and across the water in the UK, Autechre were set to releases their debut album, Incunabula. This is still one of my favorite albums of all time.

The Future Sound Of London followed and then all of a sudden we has this incredible rush of exquisite electronic music. I think it’s only gotten better from there, and with newer names like Arovane, Lusine, and Funckarma, it’s easy to see why. They are artists i respect a lot, along with Convextion who is a Texas Genius.

Oliver Lieb is a living legend, and i wish i could steal Charlie May’s Waldorf Wave. I love his arpeggiators. I need that keyboard.

Recently I’ve had this awesome headcold. It’s not allowing me to think or be able to listen or work on any music. Or workout. My trainer is going to kick my ass. Although last Sunday I was able to listen to a few things and those things were…

  1. Alex Young - Minime [Strike]
    huge.

    massive trance anthem.
  3. Mystic Letter & GreGee - Origins [H-Productions]

  4. Crystal Noise - Odyssey [Clubland] | Buy

  10. Sara Galli & Matteo Matteini - Confident [Hotfingers] | Buy

Hopefully that will help you learn a bit about my varied tastes and a little bit about me.

Just to finish with some online dating style answers, I love nature and animals, I love to party, I collect keyboards, I could have been a tennis pro, I have a silver GTi, I love graffiti and love to take photos, and I make great mashed potatoes. I absolutely love to eat. The more food you want to feed me, the better.
